Laundry day: Invermere

Laundry Day:

Today Im looking around Invermere and doing some washing while I have some free time. When you hit the slopes most days it doesn't leave a lot of time to go sightseeing.

Invermere is located in BC but very close to the Alberta boundary. It technically is in BC but runs on Mountain Time. The population is around 4,000 people and seems to be similar in size to Wanaka with some very touristy shops. Looks like it would be heaving in the summer with the lake and its proximity to Calgary which is around a 3 to 3 1/2 hr drive.

I believe there are 8 golf courses close by and are very popular. The Columbia River flows thru Invermere Lake on its 2,000km journey down to Washington State. It's currently frozen so its hard to tell what the water quality is like but lots of people swim and ski on the Lake in Summer so it can’t be too bad.

Invermere is also a historic town and was first settled by Europeans in the mid 1800’s. The area is also the traditional territory of the Ktunaxa people who have migrated thru the area for 4,000 years. Today it’s mostly a tourist town and holiday destination. The lake edge is dotted with some pretty ritzy houses and the condo Im staying in is almost on the lake with a swamp or marsh between me & the lake shore. Invermere has 2 decent supermarkets which are just a short walk away from my accommodation, and the coffee shop is like a 5 min drive into town. Very handy.

The weather has been stunning the last couple of days with nice frosty mornings and clear mild days. The Mountains and Invermere Lake look beautiful. I am back on the hill tomorrow so stay tuned.
