A snowy Day @ Red

Tad grinning at the conditions today. He does love those trees

It has been lightly snowing since 9am this morning and it’s still going strong.

This has resulted in around 7cm on the ground at lunch, then around another 3cm before the lifts closed @ 3pm. While this sounds amazing it does provide some interesting challenges. The light was really flat and low viz lenses were a must, and snow definition was a challenge. The snow while a great top up was not that fluffy dry jap pow. It was quite wet and a water proof jacket & pants are required to prevent dampness. The wind had also blown the snow around the hill particularly in the Paradise area. Some of the snow on the runs looked like wind blown waves. The trees and edges of the runs provided some fab skiing with lots of ducking and diving around the margins of the groomed runs.

With 3 participants of the group having come down with COVID everyone is very anxious. This week 18 of us are divided into 3 smaller groups. No one in our group has caught it yet but a guy in our group his house mate has got it. So much caution is required.

With tomorrow looking like a powder day the locals will be on the hill en-masse. Expect queues and busy tree runs. I have hired a pair of fatter skis in anticipation of moguls and tree skiing being the order of the day.

Downtown Rossland looking so pretty after some new snow
