A 7cm Powder Day

Snowed under

Red received 7cm of snow over night. My car needed 20min of defrosting and snow removal before I could drive it this morning. The doors were almost frozen shut and required a big yank to open. The temp was -4C at the base so not too cold.

1st time this trip we have had to wait in line. We started queuing @ 8.30 and loaded at 9.10.

We arrived slope side at 8.30 this morning trying to beat the powder hounds in the lift line. The comment was made that the queue was more like a 20 cm day not a 7cm day. Maybe it was the clear blue skies. So mid morning the car park was closed because it was too full. The lift line while long was somewhat better than the Giant queue on a busy weekend at Turoa.

My all mountain ski rentals.

How good was the snow you ask? It sure was playful, no crusty ice in the trees or the sides of the runs and the groomers skied great in the morning. After lunch when things had been skied out and chopped up things got a little challenging. Still some fresh lines to be found in the trees this afternoon tho. Lots of happy punters out today. How did my all mountain rental skis go - well they are pretty heavy and require a decent athletic stance and they like to be worked. Consequently my legs were done by 2pm. Certainly not as playful as my carbon fibre C6s. I am going to find a way to fit 2 pairs of skis in my bag for next time. Wish me luck.

Ronnie in the trees with that beautiful snow

We skied/pushed our way up to the top of this bluff. Don’t think I’m ever gonna ski those runs. I got nauseous just thinking about how steep they are.
