An Evening at the Museum Rossland style

After skiing on Wednesday some of the group had a visit to the local Rossland Museum.

While small it does hold an interesting collection of early Rossland Historical memorabillia. Before it was a ski hill Rossland was a gold mining town with large amounts of ore removed from many small mines around the hills and one large mine next to the current museum site. Of course a whole room was devoted to skiing on the hill and the areas old olympic champions - famous in a small town. The museum is currently on a fund raising mission to improve the visitor experience and house more 1st Nation history. Currently there is a tiny little corner with some woven baskets and a map of traditional hunting routes. Given the long history of 1st Nation people in the area this was a little disappointing.

The Museum was however fascinating with some pretty cool stuff.

A must do when visiting Rossland.

Local 1st Nation History in the area. Try saying that word !
