Epic

Today was our first visit to Cardrona since we built our house in Ohakune and hung our hat at Turoa. So it was lovely to be back especially after 20cm of snow landed overnight at Cardrona.

All lifts were up and running @9am and the snow was magnificent. While not the cold smoke of Jap pow it sure was a delight to ski on. The groomed runs had some lovely soft stuff on top and off trail was impressive. A bluebird day with no wind and mild temps adds up to EPIC.

Big line up for all lifts today.

Epic could also describe the queues for the lifts and the volume of people skiing. While the runs didn’t appear to be super busy mostly because you could go all over the Mountain and ski lots of off piste stuff. The line ups for all the lifts was impressive. Our longest wait was 30min at the Whitestar Express which actually broke down around 1.30pm resulting in everyone having to ski down to the Valley View Lift and get a bus up to the base. The joys of skiing. Brent had his 1st ski in NZ with his new skis and his new Tad Graves technique. Cardrona was sold out today and my guess is that with so many children on the Mountain the local schools must have been 1/2 full.

Cardrona up until now has had a lack lustre season and yesterdays snowfall would have been most welcome.
