Groomed Ice

Today we are back in Ohakune and with on overnight frost in town we were hopeful of some nice snow on the Mountain.

Ski Buddies today

Car Park Temp: +4 @ 9am Unfortunately the snow line has moved up the mountain since my last visit and is currently Snowflake cafe level.

Pure Turoa is doing an amazing job of keeping Clarry’s Track up and running with much man made snow and trucking in of snow from further up the hill.

Runs Open: With such a low snow base currently the only runs open off the HNE are Snowbird- hard and fast today, Big Bowl - chunky ice and Vertigo - okayish according to my homies. I didn’t actually ski these last 2 runs but my buddies did. Clarry’s Track remains the only way down to the base.

A bluebird day

Run of the Day: Boneyard my homies. I never thought I would actually report this given that boneyard is often congested, narrow and with a combination of snowy chop can be nasty, but today it was almost decent.

HK resident enjoying the sun for her lunch at the Giant.

Comments from the day in no particular order are: I’d forgotten how horrible it is skiing in NZ. That run was frozen pebble skiing, albeit with amazing views of Mt Taraniki but the HNE was running well and with no queues one could do lots of laps. We are trying to put a positive spin on just how current conditions are.
