Hudson Bay Mountain

This is the name of the Smithers Ski area. Hudson Bay Mountain is the huge Mountain that dominates the sky line here. It is of course named after the famous Hudson Bay Company which had a large Ranch in the area over 100 years ago.

Old school lift passes had us perplexed

The numbers: 700 acres or 283ha. While this dosen’t look a lot on paper let me tell you there is soooo much terrain here. The runs here are thigh burning long with a long cat track to get to the ONE and only chair lift from the ticket office. Plenty of traversing here. The other 2 lifts are T bars which I currently detest. Maybe by the end of the week I will overcome this fear I have because some of the terrain I want to access can only be gotten to by T bars (and the car park).

No 1 weasel run of the day

New Snow - 2cm overnight refreshed the snow. Hudson Bay Mountain is also having a shocking snow year compared to normal much like the rest of BC.

We did miss Red today as we were getting geared up for the day out of the car boot exactly like Turoa. We have spent the last few weeks spoilt as we had our coffee in the cafe, pulled our boots on in heated luxury and stored our skis in a locker on site. As to the coffee it is currently Sunday here in Smithers and it is a BC public holiday tomorrow so all the decent coffee shops in town were closed and we were reduced to getting our coffee from Tim Horton. Very hard to describe this brew as coffee I feel and my loathing for this brand continues.

Low snow conditions have resulted in these signs around the Mtn

Low light here today made it a challenge to see the snow conditions and No 1 Weasel wants to step up the pace even if I cant see. Hopefully tomorrow will be better.
