Nordic Skiing

Brent with the Instructor

Today we headed up to try our hand at Nordic Skiing. Temperatures today were a mild +3C at the bottom of the Mountain and things had frozen overnight so the snow was hard and fast on the Nordic Trails. We got some lessons, hired some boots and skis, and off we went. Nordic boots are a hell of a lot more comfortable and easier to get on than downhill boots that’s for sure. The skis are also way lighter and narrower.

As we are newbies we took it very gingerly on pretty flat terrain. 1st thing to learn of course is how to stop. Here the good old pizza/wedge came in handy. Brent picked it up pretty quickly and I was my chicken little self and cautiously tried to wedge and edge at the same time to stop. Baby steps. Baby steps. So needless to say Brent made great progress and I have a loooong way to go to even stop properly. Will we have another go while we are here - WATCH this space.

Cute little boots that are a lot more comfortable and easy to walk in than downhill boots.

You can rent all the gear at Greywolf Nordic Centre
