The way all great days begin

As a true Howcroft, the day started nice and early with a coffee at the mountain base. Although it is pretty atrocious coffee, there is something lovely about sitting in a warm mountain cafe waiting for the lifts to open. We have scoped out a local coffee roaster downtown, so tomorrow we are hopeful for a nicer cup of bean juice.

AJ was off on the first lift with her gaggle of powder muttons, which left Ellie and I to our own devices.

No.2 Being whipped into shape

We made the most of the still very dry, fantastic snow and after a warm up groomer run it was off to the trees for us. Only a few small grumbles were had from my number 2 but overall she skied really well, great things to come! There is some surprisingly long and challenging runs at red, with well spaced trees and open off-piste areas, it is quickly becoming a fan favourite.

My minion enjoying a well deserved break in the trees

Despite this, a major draw back is the horrifically slow and shaded chairlifts, a flash back from NZ’s past AND without foot rests (cry), while great for a break when you are lapping the powder all day, after a chilly groomer run you are often frozen half to death at the top.

Dream team

Overall the snow is holding together really nicely, the trees are loaded with snow and giving very Dr Seuss vibes

Feeling like Cindy Lou Who

After a few years of only NZ skiing it is particularly fantastic to be finally on some decent snow. Very very lucky!

Only thing missing from the holiday is the slightly slower than me powder god (dad) and the rest of the fam!

Until next time,
