Weekend Crowds on a Friday
She’s busy today folks.
Turoa has had over 30cm of snow in the last 3 days and with that southerly front gone, and bluebird skies today it was always going to be busy as frick. I was hoping that they would at least get the Giant and the High Noon open. But when I came down just after 1pm it was not the case.
The queue for the Movenpick/Parkland loading area was nasty long. Last time I saw the line that long was when the High noon lift tower got mowed over by an avalanche, cause ing everyone to be congested below the Giant top return. Then tho the Ngai Wai was open but not so this year.
The lift towers on the HNE needed de-icing today but with the brisk wind on the hill this may not happen.
Limited staff currently also means that snow clearing/road gritting and traffic control are also taking a looong time. Today was a good example of this. It took me almost 2hrs to get into my fav car park (where would I be without my knitting I ask). I was then greeted my an insane number of people. The facilities at the base are in no way geared up for the number of people who arrived today. The snow from the car park did however look amazing and with Home run open I may not need to use the congested Clarry’s.
Ellies new sweater this beautiful blue will look amazing with her eyes. Knitted in unspun yarn from Nutiden.
The blog will return on Monday all going well as I cannot bring myself to ski in those massive crowds - Red Mountain has completely spoilt me and planning is underway for a 2023-24 Canada trip.
