Long Runs

Hudson Bay Mountain or HBM as locals refer to it has some very long runs. The run from the base/ticket area to get to the one and only lift here is a 4.6km cat track. Good warm up opportunity I reckon. The lift is a slow 15 min to the top, good thing we are used to slow old lifts from last week at Red. Then the shortest run to get back to the lift is 2.6km. So plenty of skiing on most runs around here.

Ski into the ticket office. Bit like a drive thru at at McDonalds but a ski thru. Don’t even need to take your skis off

Today one T bar was closed due mainly to the fact that no was was here. We hardly saw a soul on the hill, lifts or runs. Maybe that’s due to the lack of snow.

Weather: A mild -1C when we arrived with an inversion layer that cleared around lunch to reveal some amazing scenery of the surrounding Mountains. So many bowls at the top to explore if only there was more snow on the ground.

Almost above the tree line here

Snow: Packed powder on the runs with a significant lack of grooming on most of those thigh busting long runs. This lack of grooming required some technique adjustment so as not to chatter your teeth loose. Trees were okay until Loza took me down a black tree run and nearly lost me in a collision with the ground (It really wasn’t that bad, everything was totally under control).

My loathing of T bars has diminished somewhat mostly due to the fact that if you want to ski the south face of the mountain, you’ve got to use it to access this terrain.

The T bar is reputed to be North Americas longest T bar at 510m it sure feels like it at the end of the day.
