Managing Expectations

Sparky showing that low expectations of a place to snooze can easily be blissfully exceeded.

With the forecast looking great we headed up and grabbed our fav car park.

Temps were a balmy +4C, which is never good for snow. Added to this, light misty drizzle had softened the snow pack making Clarry’s Track patchy, rocky and very thin.

Expectations from the PG are a little different to AJ’s…. AJ likes good snow cover especially on the last run home. I also prefer to be able to see where I’m going, not get wet and have a generally nice time.

PG will basically rock hop, slush dive and get drenched all to get those runs under his belt. Consquently today PG did 11 runs, and AJ finished a jumper in the warmth of the Tesla. The closet my skis got to snow today was in the rack at the base. I did however get my boots on and checked out the bottom of Clarry’s which was looking nasty. It must be getting close to being unskiable. Downloading might be the next step.

View of the 6 from the top of the Giant midday today. The tracks are starting to be formed but a lot of de-icing and avi control etc to go yet. Expect it to take a month to get open and when it spins this time next week Boo-Yaa homies ! (expectations exceeded) Still holding awesome snow in the glacier bowls up there and with an official snow depth of 1.4m they appear to have lost bugger all since the mother of all dumps 10 days ago.
