Turoa ‘23

Yes I’m back for another season reporting from Ohakune on ski conditions @ Turoa.

The season has had a tricky start with the Govt bailing RAL out to the tune of 5M big ones. This week however we have had a ton of snow which has covered rocks all the way to the base. Last year if I recall correctly we had to upload from the base ALL SEASON because of the low snow pack . So this year is looking better already. Season passes went on sale on Monday along with the wanker car parking and YAAS I have managed to get my mits on both. So we are all set for an epic season.

I”m thinking with good early snow we could be looking at a 20 day season.

The first recon trip was made up the hill with the Bro in law today. Craig who is away for the best part of our winter ski season here was keen to get a few runs under his belt. AJ was of course cautious with the weather overcast & a light drizzle making conditions damp at best. PG got 3 runs down Clarry’s Track under his belt and declared that it was an awesome start to the season, while the weather wasn’t that great the snow coverage was fab for the 5th July.
